The Pôle Matériaux covers a large range of activities, from basic research and the transfer of technologies, to high level training.
The Pôle Matériaux is developing the study of materials with specific properties with a view to future applications, particularly in the field of information and communication.
The research developed in its laboratories covers fields at the interface between chemistry and physics as diverse as Nanomaterials or biomaterials, catalysis and polymers.This research is the source of numerous applications. The presence at the Ecole Européenne de Chimie, Polymères, Matériaux (European School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials) (ECPM) of an organic chemistry department enables the development of considerable activity in analytical, organic and bioorganic chemistry, based at a mass spectrometry laboratory.
This research centre includes a section specifically oriented towards businesses through the Centre Régional d'Innovation et de Transfert de Technologie (Regional Centre of Innovation and Transfer of Technology) (CRITT Materials) which provides assistance to small, medium and major businesses faced with process problems, errors or improvement of the materials which they use. This CRITT specialises more particularly in magnetic products, polymers, stone-based materials, glass and ceramics.
In 2002, the pole's three principal activities (research, training, and development) were brought together on the Cronenbourg campus in order to further intensify the exchange of information.
