Strasbourg and Alsace join forces with the neighbouring regions of Baden-Württemberg and Northern Switzerland to form a veritable "golden triangle" of technological research and innovation. This geographical area contains a concentration of one of the highest densities of laboratories and research scientists in Europe.
Strasbourg is the home of more than 50,000 students, 20 % of whom are from overseas. It is the most international university city in France after Paris.

The three Strasbourg universities were the first in France to create a European university hub in 1991.
These three universities have really acted as an incubator in Strasbourg. Using them as a starting point and working in tandem, more than a hundred public and private research laboratories have developed.
The Communauté Urbaine de Strasbourg encourages the presence and mobility of students and teachers/researchers in the Upper Rhine region. Alongside the Université de Haute-Alsace, the universities of Strasbourg are responsible for the Maison Universitaire France-Japon, the aim of which is to foster relations between teachers and students from both countries.
These universities are an integral part of EUCOR (European Confederation of Universities from the Upper Rhine) working in tandem with the Universities of Karlsruhe, Freiburg-im-Breisgau (Baden-Württemberg), and Basel (Switzerland).
